The basic AV500 unit has limited security software installed and Cylon have developed special software to make the unit auditable, time and date stamped and great for evidential use. The basic AV500 will be limited on its own, to provide any footage for evidential purposed as the security software developed by Cylon means that the time and date stamp facility is tamper proof and controlled by a unique PIN number. This, along with good management of the unit will ensure that only an assigned person will be able to change the nature of any of the time and date settings.

The AV500 unit has Cylon specifically designed security software installed
The value of the Cylon Security software is key in its use for the evidential purposed and it limits controls and provides an audit trial for the use of footage for evidence purposes. The standard AV500 unit has a number of featured which include for example music storage which is not needed for its use as a body worn surveillance systems and part of the security software has been introduced to make sure that the unit is easy to navigate and use as well as ensuring evidence continuity and storage.

The security software has been developed over the past year to ensure that the software meets the needs of both the private security industry and the police and indeed the unit has been sold, verified as fit for the purpose for evidential purposes and being actively uses for prosecutions within 34 UK Police Forces as of April 2006.

The AV500 unit has Cylon specifically designed security software installed to control the setting of the time and date. The software will also create specific recording folders for each day of the month. These folders, and all footage contained in the folder, will automatically be deleted after 30 days unless copied onto a PC or burned to a DVD disk.

The general guidance for the security software is that a nominated ‘Data Manager’ (i.e. the person responsible for the management of video and data from the unit – not the wearer) be designated to manage all the data that is recorded. This management of the unit in this way will produce an exemplary audit trail for the evidence as well as this simple being good practice.

The security software enables a data manage to set the time and date setting for the DVR unit. Once these have been set they are only able to be changed by the data manager through the use of unique PIN number which should be kept by the data manager only. This means that the time and date settings are strictly controlled to one person and prohibits the wearer from changing any of these settings.
